Role Play Basics
Never roleplayed before? Absolutely confused on what the heck it is? Then you've come to the right place, my friend!
Here are the basics:
There are three different types of roleplays (On this website):
Open Roleplay. Anyone can join this roleplay at anytime.
Closed Roleplay. Closed to anyone outside of who is selected by the former of the roleplay.
Application Roleplay. Anyone can ask (Apply) to join in a linked page in the Plotting of the Roleplay you wish to join.
When you roleplay, you and your character are two different people. You and your character may share different thoughts and ideas, so don't worry about offending someone else when you respond as your character. I mean, if you're roleplaying as a kidnapper, and someone else is the kid, obviously you guys are not going to get along.
Which brings me to my next topic. God-modding is not allowed. To God-mod is to basically control someone else's character. For example, you can throw a punch but you can't decide how hard it lands or even if it lands at all. Unless the other person lets you, it isn't allowed. As for the other person, if someone does throw multiple punches please don't make it impossible to hit your character. It's not much fun when no action happens, try and keep it somewhat realistic.
Back to the first basic rule of roleplaying. You and your character's knowledge are two completely different things. So, unless the other person shows, or tells your character, your character knows nothing. (unless, of course, they've done their research and figured it out)
When roleplaying, you speak in third person, past tense. For example, "Amy ran to the store to grab a jug of milk for her cereal." Also, please notice I did not use chatspeak. Chatspeak is not allowed in roleplaying. So no "LOL" or "JK" or emoticon smileys. Try to describe what your character is doing or feeling instead.
You CAN speak out of character while you're roleplaying, to which you may use chatspeak or add a little note about your roleplay, or maybe a question to your roleplaying partner. At either the beginning or the end of your roleplay, put a little notifcation that you're out of character, either with OOC or /Author'snote. It doesn't matter, as long as you give a heads up of some kind.
It's not really a requirement but please, please, please do NOT write one liners. They do absolutely nothing to progress the roleplay and just make things awkward. Also, please go for Quality, not Quantity. And if you're roleplaying with multiple people, PLEASE do not make just two characters go back and forth between each other...it's very annoying for the other people to have to read through all those.
Absolutely NO Bashing other peoples Role Plays.
Also, no Mary Sue's or Gary Stu's. These are characters that are supposedly perfect with no flaws. Please, when you are creating your character give them some flaws. No one likes a perfect character, they're just annoying.
And finally, before you go posting your character here there and everywhere, please take a second to visit THIS PAGE: https://onestoproleplay.forumotion.com/t4-read-before-you-create-your-character#4 so you can register your character.
HOPEFULLY, roleplaying no longer seems like a foreign language to you so get out there and have some fun!~
